The Colonel’s Bride stars J.D. Parker as Colonel Bill Best. A fallen man, Bill attempts to make amends with a tattered past by embracing a young, Vietnamese mail-order bride (Alicia Truong).  Bill, a retired US Army Colonel and occasional commercial real-estate agent, spends most of his waking hours in the company of bourbon, cigarettes, and a persistent cough. As time fades for the Colonel, new life resonates in the Vietnamese mail order bride. She arrives suddenly at his doorstep, delivered by Sam, the mail-order agent and long-time friend of the Colonel. After a brief courtship, Bill and his bride are wed. Despite a language barrier and the Colonel’s impotence, Bill attempts to prove his love as a companion, making amends for a history of regrets.

The film explores the aging, retired Colonel as a fallen American hero grappling with a society he no longer understands. 35mm textures beautifully capture the film’s aesthetic vision. Mr. Stewart explores static cinematography techniques to advance the film’s statement to a visually compelling final scene. Original score is by Lindsay Jamison.

  • Little Rock Film Festival Review: "The Colonel’s Bride really defies all expectations. Director Brent Stewart’s sense of pacing and humor strikes the right amount of charming eccentricity and emotional honesty. Starring J.D. Parker, The Colonel’s Bride makes a great addition to list of films vying for Best Southern Film for the Oxford American competition."
